The game
What is Fix Yo Yap?
An impromptu speaking game for iPhone and Android. You get a random topic card, 60 seconds to think and 45 seconds to talk. The app records you, scores the round out of 10 and tells you which of five speaking styles you sounded like.
How long is a round?
Sixty seconds to think about the card, then forty-five to talk. A round needs at least thirty seconds of talking to be scored.
Can I choose my topic?
No. A card is dealt at random and you get one Change per round if it really does not work for you. Not knowing the topic in advance is the point: it is practice for talking without a script.
What if English is not my first language?
Every card has Translate, which shows the topic in Hindi, Filipino or Turkish while you think. You still answer out loud in English. The app itself is available in English and Turkish.
What are the five yappers?
Five ways of talking: The Leaper, The Trailer-Off, The Restarter, The Fast Talker and The Hammer. After a scored round the app names the one your numbers sit closest to. None of them is the right one, and if you were not strongly any of them, it says nothing.
The score
How is my score calculated?
From seven measurements of your recording, at fixed weights: finished sentences (25%), filler words (20%), dead air (15%), talking speed (15%), voice movement (10%), word variety (10%), stumbles (5%). Every round, for every player, is scored the same way, and each score is stamped with the version of the scoring rules that produced it.
Does an AI judge what I said?
No. The score is measured, not judged: it counts and times what you did, not whether your opinion was good. No language model decides any part of the number. Translate and Explain on a card use one, and they only ever touch the words on the card.
Will the same recording always get the same score?
Yes. Same clip, same score. The thresholds live in one place, and changing them starts a new leaderboard season rather than quietly rewriting old scores.
Which filler words does it count?
Hesitation sounds such as um, uh, er, mm and hmm, counted per minute so a longer take is not punished for being longer. After a round the marked transcript highlights every one it counted.
Compete, streaks and the board
How does Compete work?
Everyone in a match speaks on the same card, 45 seconds each, and the scores are ranked side by side. Find a stranger pairs you with someone searching right now; Play a friend gives you a six-letter code for up to six people.
Do I need to pay to compete?
Joining a match is free, though your turn uses one of your own rounds. Hosting a match with a code needs Saver or Premium.
What counts towards my streak?
Any day you played a round. A streak counts the days you showed up, not the days you did well, so a round that failed to score still keeps it.
How does the leaderboard work?
It ranks your best score this season. Separately, every round you play earns XP and moves you up a tier, from Rookie through Regular, Yapper and Loudmouth.
Plans and your account
Is Fix Yo Yap free?
It is free to try, and free rounds are scored exactly like paid ones. After that, Premium gives unlimited rounds and Saver gives a set number each month.
What is the difference between Saver and Premium?
Saver gives you 15 rounds each calendar month with your score and your yapper on every one. Premium adds unlimited rounds, the full breakdown, your complete history and kept recordings.
Does paying change my score?
No. Every plan is scored by the same rules. Paying changes how many rounds you can play and how much of the breakdown and history you can see.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings in the app, or from the Delete account page on this site, which lists exactly what is removed and what is kept.
Plans and prices are on the pricing page, and how a round runs is on How it works.
